COI Movers

Most New York buildings will not let movers in without a certificate of insurance. MPs New York issues the COI your building needs so moving day starts on time.

  • Flat-rate written quotes
  • Furniture disassembly included
  • Licensed & fully insured

When you move out of or into an apartment or condo in NYC, the building will often ask your moving company for a certificate of insurance (COI). Without it, the crew may not be allowed through the door.

Once your date is set, ask your building manager whether a COI is required. Then mention it when you book with MPs New York, and we will take care of it so moving day runs smoothly.

Why Do Buildings Require a COI?

Building managers ask for a COI to protect the property while residents move in and out. Furniture traveling through hallways, down stairs and in elevators can scuff walls, floors or fixtures. A reputable mover provides a COI whenever it is requested.

If your building wants one, let us know. We gather the details needed to prepare the certificate exactly the way your building expects.

Most buildings and management companies require a COI so they are not left responsible for damage that happens during a move.

What Is a Certificate of Insurance?

A COI is a document issued through our insurance provider. It confirms that we are insured and describes the coverage, giving the building the information it needs if our work ever caused damage.

Because documents are easy to fake, buildings want the COI in advance so they can confirm it is genuine and accurate.

  • General liability
  • Cargo coverage
  • Commercial auto
  • Umbrella coverage
  • Workers' compensation

Many NYC buildings ask for at least $2 million in coverage. High-profile or landmark buildings can require much higher limits. The COI states the amounts, so you and the manager can confirm it meets the building's requirements.

After it is issued, the COI is reviewed by the building's board, management or superintendent. Approval is usually a formality, but a certificate can be rejected if the limits are too low, which is why we confirm requirements up front.

How to Get a COI From MPs New York

  1. Step 1

    Ask your building

Check with management whether a COI is required and what coverage amounts and named insureds they need. Many buildings have a sample COI they can send.

  2. Step 2

    Send us the details

Share the building's name and address, the manager's name and their email or other contact information.

  3. Step 3

    We issue the COI

Generating a certificate can take a few hours, so request it when you book. We send it directly to your building.

  4. Step 4

    Building approval

Management reviews and approves the COI, and your move goes ahead on schedule.

Don't Leave It Until Moving Day

A building that requires a COI can turn away a crew that does not have one. That delays the move and can change your estimate.

We suggest asking for a COI even if your building does not require it. It confirms you hired a properly insured company and avoids last-minute problems on either end of the move.
