Piano Movers in NYC

Pianos are beautiful, complex instruments, and moving one through a New York building is a real challenge. MPs New York loads and unloads every style of piano safely and securely.

  • Flat-rate written quotes
  • Furniture disassembly included
  • Licensed & fully insured

A piano should only be moved by a team with a proven method. Many weigh several hundred pounds, which makes stairs, hallways and elevators especially tricky.

Sometimes a piano's size or shape calls for an alternative route out of the building, and we plan for that ahead of time.

Our crews bring the right tools and gear for each instrument and take a white glove approach throughout, including straps, fasteners and specialized equipment for the safest possible loading.

Types of Pianos We Move in NYC

Each style brings its own challenges. We move them all.

Upright pianos

The most common piano in NYC homes. Narrower than other designs, but still heavy and top-heavy, so they need careful handling on stairs.

Grand pianos

A true grand is a serious investment and a piece of craftsmanship. We move grands for homes, studios, churches and theaters with full protection.

Digital pianos

Electronic pianos are loaded and unloaded using best practices so they arrive working and unmarked.

From a parlor grand heading to a new studio to a well-loved spinet, MPs New York will get it there. Contact us for a no-obligation quote and tell us about your instrument.

Why Hire Professional Piano Movers?

Our goal is simple: deliver your piano intact, without a scratch. Our trucks are equipped for heavy instruments, and we use the right padding and packing materials so nothing shifts on the road.

Professional piano moving often costs less than people expect. Rather than risk injury trying to shift an instrument that can weigh close to 1,000 pounds, let a trained crew do it while you focus on the rest of your move.

You also get a moving coordinator as your single point of contact from quote to delivery.

How We Move a Piano

Every instrument and every building is different, so each move is planned individually. In general, it looks like this.

  1. Step 1

    Prepare the instrument

Where appropriate, we remove parts such as the lid, legs or pedal lyre to make the move safer, then pad and pack each component.

  2. Step 2

    Protect the route

Floors, stairways and walls are covered before the piano moves to prevent damage to the building.

  3. Step 3

    Load with the right equipment

Piano boards, dollies and straps keep the instrument stable and minimize risk on the way to the truck.

  4. Step 4

    Secure for transport

The piano is fastened inside the truck body so it cannot shift, whether the trip is across town or across the country.

  5. Step 5

    Unload and reassemble

At the destination we prepare the route again, unload carefully and reassemble the piano in its new spot.

If the new room is not ready yet, your piano can wait in our climate-controlled storage. Free, no-obligation estimates mean you know the cost before any work starts.
